Introduction
The construction site of this project is located in the Menchayam Rural Municipality Of Terhathum District in Nepal. Khorunga Khola is one of the major tributary of Tamor River that originates at elevation of 2950 m and the river joins with Tamor River at elevation of 600 m. Upper Khorunga Khola Hydropower Project, 7.5 MW is a Run of River type of project with design discharge of 3.15 m3/sec at Q40%. Geographically the project area is located between longitudes 87o31’20” to 87o32’30” and latitudes 27o11’48” to 27o13’59”.
The project is being developed by Terhathum Power Company Ltd. with project finance by the consortium lead by Machhapuchre Bank Ltd. with participating Bank viz. Nepal Bangladesh Bank Limited, Janata Bank Nepal Limited. The report is prepared containing site progress up to 15TH Bhadra 2076.
Project Location and Accessibility
The project site is located in Menchayam rural municipality of Terhathum district. Major project components are located on the right bank of Khorunga Khola and Ewa Khola. The proposed headworks of the project lies separately at the Khorunga Khola and Ewa Khola, upstream from confluence of Khorunga and Ewa Khola while the powerhouse lies about 500 m u/s from the confluence of Khorunga and Tangmaya Khola.
The project site is about 32 km far from Basantapur in Terhathum district which is the nearest place in Koshi Highway. Further, there is a blacktopped road up to Jirikhimti Bazar. From Jirikhimti, project headworks site is about 12 km with existing earthen road. Some of the stretches in the route needs to be cleared and maintained.
Scope of Works
The main objective of this work is to carry-out the review of physical progress of the project in the construction site.

Summary of activities performed
The progress in the construction activities of various components at the project site has been explained below. The recent photographs of project components has been attached in Annex 01.
Khorunga Khola Headworks
60 % work of construction for diversion weir at Khorunga Khola headworks has already been completed. Similarly, 100% of the work for construction of intake/under sluice/ bypass canal has been completed. For gravel trap, 100 % of the construction work has been completed.
Ewa Khola Headworks
The construction of diversion weir of Ewa Khola headworks has already been completed. Both gravel trap and desander has already been constructed completely as well. Similarly, 100% work of construction for intake/under sluice component has been completed.
Headrace alignment
The headrace pipe has 3077.194 m length and is located on the right bank of the Ewa Khola starting from the end of desander up to T- Junction. The headrace pipe installation upto anchor block number 43 (length 2950.00m) has been completed which is approximately 96% of headrace alignment. Similarly, installation work of 460.37m length Collection Pipe between Khorunga Khola Gravel Trap to Ewa Khola Gravel trap (Collection Chamber) is progressing. The 175m Khorunga collection pipe has been completed which is 38% of Khorunga collection alignment. The Pipe Syphon at Ewa Khola has been completed. The Anchor Blocks & Saddle supports has been 60% completed.
Surge Pipe
The project has the surge pipe at transition between headrace pipe and penstock pipe. There will be about 74.30 and 21.95m long, mild steel buried surge pipe from T- junction laid on ground up hill. The excavation work has been completed and Saddle supports work is in progress. The fabrication of surge pipe has been 100% completed.
Penstock Pipe
The total length of mild steel penstock pipe from T-junction to powerhouse is 1049.64m. Around 95 % of the penstock pipe installation work has been completed. Finishing, Full welding work is ongoing and independent testing agency is also working for checking and certification of the welding. At Penstock alignment, Anchor Blocks & Saddle supports has been 80% completed.
Power House
A surface powerhouse has been provisioned on the right bank of Khorunga Khola. For Power house, machine foundation has already been completed. Similarly, frame structure & roofing for the powerhouse has also been completed. The painting work is going on progress.
Electro-mechanical Work
The electro-mechanical components for the project has already been dispatched to the site. 100 % Electromechanical equipment has been arrived at site. The E&M erection team has been working at power house. EOT crane has been installed and erection of other equipment is in progress.
33Kv Transmission line & Remote Substation at Jirikhimti
The land development work for remote substation has been completed. Further process for construction of Switchgear foundation etc. is in progress. 70% work of 33kv transmission line has been completed.

As per the existing progress rate, Upper Khorunga Khola Small Hydropower project is anticipated to be completed up to the month of Kartik 2076.
